meeem's day

For my mom's present on mother's day I thought I'd get crafty instead of just buying her something. So after work last week I headed to the craft store to pick up the supplies to make some wall hangings for her sewing room which she frequents often (she's a costumer for my old ballet studio). I found some awesome scrapbook paper, cutouts and stickers were all sewing related! So after collecting some of those I made my way to the isle that held the canvases and that's when it happened...the canvas vs. toe incident.

Ok so really I'm a big baby, but it hurt! A three pack of canvas fell from the top shelf (above my head) directly onto my middle toe. I was convince it was broken for but I think it just bruised the bone. Here's a day later:

Suffering in the name of art is ok by me though..and in the end I ended up buying the very canvas that injured me haha. Here's the finished product!

happy mom :)

I made breakfast too, and it was delish! My favorite for sure. Stuffed french toast filled with a cream cheese, marmalade mixture and topped with marmalade. YUM. My dad thought I was a weirdo for taking pictures of it..but it was pretty :)

Hope you all had an excellent day with your mommies :D

welcome to the zoo. crazy squirrels not welcome.

my house is currently more of a zoo than a home.
we've got 2 dogs, 4 cats, 5 people and a two and half year old.

she's crazy..but pretty cute..so i think we'll keep her.

although it's slightly insane most of the time, it does provide for some amusement and great photo opportunities. can't complain about that!

i just got some film developed from this past week, and i took a lot of shots of our animals.
here's a few:

Captain Jack.
my dog/son and the love of my life

this is our rad backyard and my bro's dog Rocket.
he is 100% Dug from the movie Up.

Milo. cuddliest cat i've ever owned.
he's also taken down a squirrel.
fierce.

Skittles the chesire cat

this little fella isn't a pet but
the above mentioned Skittles was about to munch on him.
i looked in a tree for a nest only to see that his bro/sis was being eaten
..by a squirrel..
i was not aware squirrels ate birds. ew.
so after that i found him a new home away from the cats and crazy ass squirrels

Fill-In-The-Blank-Friday

Sigh. I am currently way behind in my online class, so what do i do? Catch up? pfft no, distract myself with this of course! Why i ever thought taking an online class would be a good idea is beyond me. Procrastination, you win this time..

Fill in the blank friday, found over at the little things we do, is always fun to read because quite a few of the blogs i follow play along as well. I've only done one other, but this one is about music so i had to join in.

1. One song that always takes me back to my youth is "Lucky" by Britney Spears. haha ew. My best friend and I made a dance to it (along with every other song ever created) and it was on constant repeat for a few months i think. We were so dramatic and ridiculous when we sang along with it, and I have a feeling we'd still do the same if we heard it now.

2. My first concert ever was Delirious played at my church my freshman year, but the first concert in a venue i went to was Switchfoot my sophomore year. For how much i LOVE music i still can't believe i didn't go to a concert until high school.

3. If I could create my dream music festival I'd want these bands to be there: Oh geez..Passion Pit, Iron & Wine, Brand New, The Shins, Bon Iver, Underoath, She & Him, Chromeo, John Mayer, Ray LaMontagne, Lykke Li, Dave Matthews Band, Ben Folds, City and Colour, A Fine Frenzy, Noah and the Whale, Vampire Weekend, Thrice, One Republic. And at that point i would die of amazing music overload...and be completely ok with that.

4. The best make-out/"boot knocking" song ever is hmm..i do not know. i feel like iron & wine would be good make out music cause it's really good mellow background music..plus the lyrics are pretty sweet..but i suppose you wouldn't really be listening to the lyrics if you were making out with someone...i hope.

5. The best concert I've ever been to was I think John Mayer has definitely been the most impressive musician i've seen live..his guitar skills are pretty amazing. But Warped Tour 04 was really fun..Lots of bands, lots of sun, good friends. Aside from almost being crushed to death in the My Chemical Romance pit it was awesome..those chick fans are C-R-A-Z-Y.

6. A memorable musical moment for me was Dave Matthews at the Gorge last year. Holy amazing concert batman. I couldn't stand DMB for the longest time, but when they released GrooGrux King, I kinda started liking them so I agreed to go to the Gorge show and am now in love. Every musician in that band is so ridiculously talented it blew my mind. That actually might be up there for best concert i've been to.

7. The song on my iPod that's getting the most play these days is probably "Electric Twist" by A Fine Frenzy, "I'm Good, I'm Gone" by Lykke Li, and "Sleepyhead" by Passion Pit. Basically they all just make me want to have a dance party with Ellen :)

Current Song: Better by Regina Spektor
this video is so cute
current awesome photo: Unicorn Meat
ok normally I put photographs that are artistic and whatnot...but this just made me laugh.

FOOD. yum.

Lately I've been trying to cook a bit more. I'm still at home with the fam so cooking dinner isn't really an option unless I cook for everyone..and I don't trust my cooking skills enough to test things out on them. Instead I've been making tasty stuff for breakfast once I get home from my 1st class.
I've also been taking advantage of the pretty food and taking some food pictures. I am in love with this food site that has some of the best, most delicious looking photos I've ever seen.

Not too impressive, but yummy :) grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Slice of bread that has garlic cloves baked in, toasted with melted mozzarella, sautéed mushrooms, and a fried egg on top.
This was lunch..which was left over dinner, but it's one of my favorites. Pulled pork, bbq sandwich and coleslaw (oil and vinegar dressing, not gross mayo :p)
Perrier with lime..i just think it's pretty..and makes me want summer!
and my favorite picture- Spinach, and two fried eggs on whole wheat toast. Yum.
Ok that's all for now..plus it's lunchtime and these pictures have made me super hungry! Enjoy your day, and eat something good :D

Holga 2.0

Greetings! It's been a while..i blame school. and possibly laziness, but blaming school is always better :) i'm in my last quarter though! and one of my classes I am LOVING. Art Appreciation, and my prof is an artist (mostly sculpture stuff) who i've taken a jewelry class from previously. I just really dig art, so I'm enjoying learning stuff I feel I should have known already.

One of the first studio assignments he handed out was to take an ordinary object and make it extraordinary. I thought about turning in the camera strap i felted but then i remembered my semi-broken Holga that I've been wanting to paint/decorate somehow.
(I don't actually know if it's broken because I have yet to find anywhere here in borings-ville that will develop 120 film..but there is a plastic piece inside that broke and is rattling around inside the camera. Which fits the craptasticness of the Holga really well, I kinda love it!)

Anyway, here's what standard Holgas look like:

and here's my finished Holga:
I love it! and i really hope it's not actually broken because now i want to use this one and not my other non-rattling one! I have to fix a few scratches on it (next to the holga label) because i may or may not have dropped it :/ heh heh i'm not clumsy, i swear.
I turned it in today, and the prof loved it..i even got extra credit! I'd like to think it was for overall rad-ness :)

I also hope everyone got a sunny, beautiful Easter like it is here. Looove it!

p.s. i want that sushi.

crafty weekend

Ok first I'd like to start by saying....I quit. I've completely lost interest in the list thing. It was the recipe day that killed me haha, I like cooking but I definitely don't have any amazing recipes up my sleeve, so I was stuck on that one. I am a quitter, and I am completely ok with that. Now onto my weekend!

School finished up early for me last week, so I was able to just go to work and come home all last week..so nice! Not having homework to stress over this weekend was also great and I got so much crafty stuff done! Here's project number one:

I recently bought a film camera, and when I saw the plain black camera strap I decided it needed a little something. Felting is one of my new favorite things to do so I thought it might be fun to try on the strap.
I started with the blue flower and came up with the rest of the design from there.
That pink tool has three needles that are barbed coming out of the end, you poke those through the felt and whatever surface you're attaching the felt to and the barbs pull the felt/wool fibers through the fabric.
You just cut felt pieces and lay them directly on the fabric surface you're attaching them to...
then poke away.
The finished product.
Ta-da!! I'm super happy with the way it turned out, but now I'm on a mission to find more camera straps..I've got a billion new design ideas! This was a really fun, and fairly quick project.

Day 19 & 20

Day #19
A Talent of Mine

Day #20
A Hobby of Mine

These two sort of go hand-in-hand. My hobbies are my talents, cause I tend to only spend time on what I'm good at..or think I'm good at.

So here's a couple of my favorites I've done.

Day "oh my gosh i have so many to catch up on"

Hola. I have been missing from the blog world for some time due to quite a few things. School finals (which after monday are done, woo!) personal ish, and just plain being lazy. Soooo now I have seven days worth of list stuff to catch on. blah.

OOOOKKK here we go

13: Fictional Book- Invisible Monsters by my fave, Mister Chuck Palahniuk. Very odd much like Fight Club was.

14: Non-Fictional Book- Same Kind of Different As Me written by the people it is about, Ron Hall and Denver Moore. I don't read many non-fictional books, but I really enjoyed this one.

15: A Fanfic Day
Not gonna lie...I have no idea what this means..nor do I care enough to figure out, sooo PASS.

16: You'll Think of Me by Keith Urban
This one was kind of hard to come up with because there aren't many songs that make me cry. Movies? Shoot I could give a list 5 miles long, not songs so much though, cause I tend to just not listen to them. I remember this one because I had just broken up with a guy I had dated for a pretty long time in high school, and signed this song for my ASL class. I almost started crying in class which would have been super embarrassing! But I didn't. This song still makes me sad though.

17:An Art Piece
This isn't necessarily an art piece as in artist created/painted/drawn/whatever. But it is a piece of art or could frame one, and I think it's really cool, and it's my next project (once i find those flowers). So ta-da! Thank you Martha Stewart!

18: Whatever tickles my fancy
The Four Corner Store is a website that sells all things toy camera. I have a holga as do quite a few of my friends, and there just isn't anything better than carrying around a cheap plastic camera and not having to worry about any damage to it, but getting steller and really fun pictures in the end. It is really unpredictable, has random light leaks, you can create double exposures easily and it has the cool grainy effect that most film cameras do. Holga's are the only toy cameras I've had a chance to use, but after finding this website that sells them at the cheap prices they're meant to be sold at, I'm thinking I might try another. Moral of the story, toy cameras and film cameras in general, are awesome. So if you've been considering purchasing one, stop considering, just do it!

19: I'm gonna do tomorrow, so until then, have a great night!

Day 11 & 12

Day 11- A Recent Photo Of Me:

From my 23rd b-day outing. It was a blast, but the drive home with Amanda (left) was probably my favorite part. Loud singing and embarrassing dancing all captured on film. We're really safe drivers....heh heh.

Day 12- Whatever I fancy:

Windmills!
TC's has some pretty cool windmills that you can walk right up to. Me and the beau drove up there last time he came to visit, we waited too long so it was a little darker than we wanted for taking pictures but they still turned out pretty cool.

Day 10

Day # 10
A photo of me over 10 years ago

That little blond nugget on the right is me at like 3 or 4 probably. This picture is rad for so many reasons....it's the last year of the 80's or first of the 90's so naturally my sister and I have matching hot pink mini skirts, tie dyed shirts (complete with side synchers), side ponytails, and neon socks on. Plus we're at Chuck E. Cheese's, and last but clearly the most important for picture epic-ness.....I'm so chubby that my knees are touching. Go fat baby me.

Day 9

Day # 9
A Photo I Took

Roly Poly :)
I took this like 2 years ago. I was bored and wanting to experiment with photography stuff so I grabbed my madre's light box for crafting and then went exploring outside for fun things to photograph on it. I had a lot of flowers and leaves that ended up making some good shots but this little guy was definitely my favorite. Seeing this pictures always makes me want to try this again..perhaps I will once Spring fully arrives.

Day 8

Day # 8
A photo that makes me angry or sad.

I find todays entry a little weird. I don't really want to go search for a photo that makes me angry, I don't have any laying around cause..well, why would I want to look at something that makes me angry? Sooo here's a picture that makes me sad.
That's right, a blank piece of paper. Which is exactly what I was staring at until I distracted myself by writing this. I'm supposed to be writing a 4-6 page paper that was actually due yesterday. The paper is a compare and contrast on a book that has a film adaptation. Now originally all we knew is that we had to choose a book from a list of about 6, read the book, answer some questions and then watch the movie later. So I chose Twilight..because I had already read and seen it. Easy peezy, lemon squeezy. NOT. I come to find out a few days ago that there is also a paper due.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the books, but we can all admit that the first was not the most amazing piece of literature to hit the bookshelves. Now, I can BS like nobody's business..but 5 pages..about Twilight. No one is THAT good.

So wish me luck as I attempt to get more than.."I DONT WANT TO WRITE THIS" written down on my outline :/ Farewell!

Polaroidssss

Polaroids are quite possibly one of the coolest types of cameras out there. I love film, but seeing as I shoot mostly in digital, I am used to instant gratification. Film cameras give an amazing result..but I have to wait a really long time..and lets face it, I'm super impatient. Polaroids however, let me snap a picture and hold it in my hands fully developed minutes later. I can't even do that with digital!
Sadly the only Polaroid camera I have at the moment is a Spectra 2, which is a weird version and ridiculously hard to find film for :( But thanks to this fancy contraption called, the internet, I can now turn my digital photos into polaroids!
Let me introduce you to the Poladroid. After downloading the software, which takes about 2 minutes, you can start turning your own pictures into polaroids that can be saved on your
computer. It even makes that great Polaroid sound :) you know the one.
I love this program, and I highly recommend it. Super fun! Here's some of my poladroids:

Go try some!
